Preliminary highway design of a section of proposed access road from a new junction, providing vehicular access to a sales lodge for a new development of holiday lodges at the rear of Beamish Park Hotel. This involved the redesign of an existing access road, which was too steep and not compliant with the current Building Regulation, Approved Document M: Access to and use of buildings.
Working alongside the Transport Consultant, who provided the design for the main access to the carpark from the main adoptable road, and the overall design team, Beckwith & Hanlon produced a highway design (using Site 3D highway design software) which was compliant with Part M Building Regs and tied into the proposed road layout network, serving the new development.
The design of this section of road also highlighted that unfortunately, a number of existing trees would need to be removed to facilitate the embankments required to accommodate the new road. These embankments were kept as steep as possible (1:3 gradient), to minimise the impact on tree removal.
