Croft Mill

The proposed scheme in Foulridge, Lancashire close to the boundary with North Yorkshire is a residential development consisting of 17 new build dwellings including main access road, private garden areas and private driveways/off street parking which is providing much needed affordable homes for the area. The site is a brownfield site which formerly accommodated the Croft Mill building that required demolishing and clearing to facilitate the new development.

Beckwith & Hanlon were appointed to provide Civil, Structural and Geoenvironmental Engineering services which included a Phase 1 Ground Conditions Desk Study, Preliminary Drainage Strategy and Flood Risk Assessment to support a detailed planning application. Once planning permission was secured we undertook intrusive ground investigation works to establish any contamination/remediation requirements and to determine geotechnical properties associated with the underlying strata to establish suitable foundation solutions and design parameters for the on site infrastructure. In addition, we undertook the detailed design associated with the main access road, drainage, diversion of existing Yorkshire Water surface and foul water sewers which crossed the western part of the site, plotworks, cut and fill earthworks foundations and retaining walls in which to secure Section 38, 104 and 185 approval with the relevant authorities. The constraints associated with the proposed development included level differences across the site and existing trees to be retained within the western and north western parts of the site. Our involvement also included Section 278 design associated with the new access junction to the site and offsite highway improvements including Stage 1 and 2 Road Safety Audits as well as superstructure design for the new house types.
